Peach Pageants mark official start of festival events

The reigning Lexington County Peach Queen, Lindsey Morgan Roof, will crown her successor on Saturday, July 2.  Contestants vying for the title of 2016 Lexington County Peach Queen met with Lindsey and Pageant Chairs, Miriam Matthews and Kathy Hoffman at a tea on June 25.    Vying for the title of this year’s Peach Queen are Meagan Lynn Bostic, Catherine Hood Kirkland, Lexie deMoya, and Karoline Rose Kitchings.

Meanwhile 2015 Lexington County Peach Queens have completed one of their final honors as they presented Governor Nikki Haley with Lexington County peaches.  Lindsey Roof was joined by Miss Wee Peach Annalee Victoria Compton, Miss Little Peach Sarah-Katherine Nicole Cantrell, Miss Petite Peach Haley Noelle Heustess, and Miss Teen Peach Cicely Deatrice Wise as they visited the Governor at the South Carolina State House.

Plans are finalizing for the 58th Lexington County Peach Festival on July 4th.   A full day of fun will be offered, celebrating America’s birthday with a variety of peach desserts and peach drinks.   Arts and crafts, children’s rides, and great foods will be available for varying fees in the Gilbert Community Park on Rikard Circle. A parade, three stages of entertainment, an antique tractor and farm equipment gathering, a car show, and a fireworks show will be available without charge.  Rob Sanders with iHeart Media will be reading the Declaration of Independence at noon from the main stage.   The parade begins at 9:30 a.m., and the fireworks show begins at 10:00 p.m.   Entertainment ends at 11 p.m.
